Let’s face it, there are gay people in our society. We have failed at all fronts of inclusion. Be it disability or gender or whatever. There is HIV is rampant in India. There is no way we have not been able to address this issue. It’s not just about a disease, it’s about human rights.
If we don’t look at expanded definition of rights, we are in trouble. We can not do one vs the other, we cannot get away with that.
The other day we did a surgery on a cow in our shelter, and we found 25 kg of plastic full of razors and needles!
Our society’s thinking about marriage is problematic. We find out during family counseling that parents want their gay sons to be married and produce children (sons, preferably) and continue the family name. They can do whatever in their spare time, regardless of the wife’s feelings.
There has to be community where people get a space to be who they are. Role models have to be there. That led us to challenge the laws. Laws do not change the mind sets.
Ethics change over time, so do laws. But at a very slow speed.
The battle has just about begun, we have a long way to go!
