Social media is flooded with a go / no go on the latest Friday Bonanza….Dear Zindagi. I have been tempted to write my two bits on it and finally I decided to do so. After all, I shunned work on Friday morning to catch the morning show.
A simple and charming movie providing some organic healthy food for soul J
As a coach, I find some analogy in the way some people (read coaches, counsellors, therapists ) have reviewed the film and my approach to coaching. Dr Jehangir Khan’s sessions have been thrashed as simple, superficial, too easy to actually believe…but truly the message and the transmitter need not always be complicated.
As a coach, I loved the movie… and I completely relate to the approach of Dr Jehangir Khan
Rule No 1 ….. There is no rule
Many a times, organizations, individuals have asked me.. so what school of coaching do you practice…what’s the structure you follow, what complicated diagrams you show to express your knowledge J Well, there was a time when I was a young student of coaching that I held ‘Structure’ so dear to my heart…However, within few months, I realized, I have an unique way to coach..there are no rules and that’s the way I am at my best.
The deep infatuation with Strategy / Spirituality
Don’t get me wrong.. I am a sucker for Strategy and do believe in spirituality. However, sometimes we just need to DO things…the Nike Way..Just Do it. Actions have immense kinetic energy which propels the spiritual energy as well. Knowing more and more of the same does not help in creating a shift. Next time, when you are feeling low, just go for a run or play some music and dance buy vardenafil canada like there’s no tomorrow… I would guarantee that you would feel the shift.
Humour is the best Therapy
Seriously, too much of seriousness is out of my wardrobe (I have a very limited wardrobe J )
Demystifying complicated messages is done best by simple analogies and if you can add humour to it.. You are the best. So, just go ahead and try out the different chairs. And didn’t we learn that long back in the story of Goldilocks? Humour works like a lever…just easing things out, making movements simple and easy. The world’s best coaches from Krishna to Kabir have had the gift of humour
What works best is the Common Lingo
As coaches we are so tempted to use the heavy jargons….after all it adds to our credibility. But what works is the language which your client can relate to. What works for Dear Zindagi is the simple language, emotionally laden yet simple phrases.. Because that touches our core. And once you touch the core, the job is done. You don’t need the Perfect Coach, you need one who can touch your core.
It’s not about us.. It’s about them
So, if the movie is not up to the coaching, therapy or counselling fraternity standards… remember it is not about us.. it’s about them.. People have loved the film, they have come back with a childlike enthusiasm of stumbling upon something meaningful and beautiful
I loved the movie. I have gratitude for Gauri Shinde for bringing on some dreaded words with such ease: Therapy, Dimag ka Doctor. The not so perfect movie does a wonderful job of addressing many a things locked in the closet of our mind. This not so Perfect is better than many a Perfect
