We all love to dream…. Some of us love to set goals …It is that time of the year when many of us toy with new dreams and revised goals. The combination may lead to mouth watering fresh creamy ambitions! To have a dream is good.. .to have a goal is great!
At the start of the New Year, I would like to reflect on the difference between a Dream and a Goal. How many of us are able to successfully transform our dreams into reality. And Why ? And Why not?
Dreams mark the beginning of a journey. It is the first and the most important step. Having goals mark the reality of the journey and tell us where we are going.
It is important to dream but dreams without goals are like a flight without wings…. It’s just not going to take off. It’s not going to take off despite you being highly talented, motivated and intelligent.
So what does it take for a timely and successful take-of . You may find some of them common-sensical but common-sense is quite often pushed to dark areas where they cannot be seen easily.
5 Steps to Goal Setting
Get Clear… Reflect, talk, question, and share till you get clarity of what you want to do. Finding a mentor or a coach who can hold the mirror to you is a good idea. Refer to SMART Goals articles, books.. .anything you can lay your hands on. Don’t be in a hurry to start unless you have clarity.

Be Specific– Dr Edwin Locke, a pioneer in Goal Setting Theory, researched and found that specific and difficult goals led to better task performance than vague or easy goals.

I want to release 10 kgs of weight….I want to release 10 kgs of weight in 3months….I want to exercise and diet to release 10 kgs of weight in 3 months. Being specific brings clarity to your goals.
Break it down – Break down your dreams into manageable and achievable actions. Break it down into short term goals – daily, weekly, monthly and so on. Make your TO DO LIST… you would be surprised by your daily achievements.
Celebrate !! – Celebrate your achievements, however small they might be. It makes you feel good about yourself, keeps your spirits high and takes the journey on a fast track mode. You are never short of motivation or commitmentJ
Review – Constant monitor and review gives an opportunity to remain true and realistic to our commitments. Realization of Goal is like a F1 race.…Set your ambitions, get set go..take your pit stops, refuel your energy and sources, revise your strategies and zoom to your finish line.
